About

Land Acknowledgement

University of Niagara Falls Canada acknowledges that the land we gather on is located on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, Hatiwendaronk and Anishinaabe peoples. We also acknowledge the many other First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who call this region home.

We commit to building relationships based on respect, reciprocity, and reconciliation as we work, learn, and gather on this land. Furthermore, we acknowledge that the Niagara Region is situated on treaty land, and we stand with all Indigenous peoples, past and present, in promoting the wise stewardship of the lands on which we live.

Our History

Located on the second floor of the University of Niagara Falls Canada’s (UNF) Queen Street campus, the Lake Erie Library was designed with students in mind.

It serves as a space where students can utilize quiet spaces for individual or group study sessions, access a wide range of digital academic resources, and receive assistance from our university librarian and library assistant.

In line with UNF’s digitally focused mission, the cutting-edge fully digital library provides a modern and innovative approach to learning. Facilities include a computer lab, study spaces, as well as printing and scanning tools.

UNF’s library space was named after one of the two Great Lakes bordering the Niagara region, Lake Erie. Erie is a tribal name, shortened from the Iroquoian word erielhonan, meaning “long tail”. The Erie tribe lived along the southern edge of the lake.

The Lake Erie Library officially opened its doors on April 3, 2024 during UNF’s inaugural New Student Orientation event.
